Feylight Living: Back at Feylight Grocery

Issue 3 – Spring Edition

Yarbo Blackstone

A Closer Look at the Blue Building on the Corner

Last issue we met the grocer. This time we’re taking a tour of the place.

Feylight Grocery’s bigger than it looks on the outside. There’s a section for just about anything you need.

A cozy shop interior featuring wooden beams, various shelves stocked with colorful products, and intricate rugs on the wooden floor. There is a cashier area with a cash register and a plant, along with seating areas and a display of food items.

The Item of the Day:

Tucked beside the front counter sits a wooden platform with a sign that reads: ITEM OF THE DAY.

Here’s how it works. Every day, one featured item from one Feylight business goes on sale. Could be a toaster from Redford’s Appliance. Could be something handmade from Bart’s Carpentry shop. Could be a coveted glazed ceramic flower pot from The Garden Key Florist shop. Could be a bag of potatoes.

Only way to find out what the item of the day is? Walk in and check. Yarbo’s not gonna tell. He doesn’t want a line around the corner for one item! Mayhem! He’s still haunted by the great PeaPod Babies craze from 20 years ago. He won’t be making that mistake again.

Interior of a quaint shop featuring wooden shelves, a rustic counter, and various items on display. A bright orange chair is visible, along with a SALE sign and a carpeted floor.

The Kitchen:

Toward the back, the floor switches from creaky wood to checkered tile with bright blue accent wall. The kitchen is small — sandwiches, snacks, hot drinks. The bread comes from the Sweet P’s bakery across the street, fresh every morning. Next to the kitchen, coffee’s always on.

Interior of a rustic store with wooden shelves displaying various products, including baked goods and personal care items, against a blue wall. The floor has a black and white checkered pattern and features a service counter with a cash register.

Most days after school, Thadeus, Yarbo’s 16-year-old son, can be found back here — running the kitchen, or pretending to stock shelves.

A person with green skin stands in a cozy grocery store filled with shelves of various baked goods and pottery, against a blue wall.

The Dry Goods:

The dry goods section is where Yarbo spends most his time organizing. Sacks of flour and rice on the lower shelves. Jars stacked above — some with faded labels from when Yarbo was still just a teen. Some with no labels at all. Yarbo knows what’s in each jar. It’s his system, and it works… as long as you’re not shy about asking.

A cozy market interior featuring a variety of fruits and vegetables displayed in wooden crates. A person is standing on a stool, organizing the produce. Shelves in the background hold jars and other items, with sunlight filtering through large windows.

Braids of cured garlic and onions hang from the thick wooden posts. Bundles of herbs spice up the wall with color. Dried flowers, leaves, roots, bark, seeds, buds, and pressed oils. Whatever you’re cooking, the secret ingredient is on a shelf in here somewhere.

A rustic market display featuring wooden shelves filled with various jars, baskets of grains, and hanging herbs. The background includes a wooden wall and a ceiling light.

The Aisles:

The far side goes modern. Pendant lights. Checkered floors. Refrigerated cases humming. Pet food, cleaning supplies, cereal, snacks, juice boxes — the stuff every household needs.

Interior view of a grocery store featuring shelves with various products, a soft area rug, and a checkout counter in a rustic setting.

The Counter:

The check-out counter sits at the front of the store. Cash register. Potted plant. Today’s newspaper open beside a fresh cup of black coffee. Balms, potions, salves — all of it made by people on the island.

Two animated characters standing in a cozy wooden room with shelves filled with books and a plant on the counter.

Open tomorrow. Same time, same place. See ya there.

A vibrant storefront featuring double doors with a blue and wooden exterior, surrounded by plants and baskets of produce, including apples and vegetables, with a sign indicating it's open.

Next issue: TBD (let us know what you want to see!)

Stay Weird. 🍄
